My Maemo Apps/Features Wishlist
One thing that I’m known for at Symbian-Guru.com is at least attempting to make use of every single feature that a device is advertised as having, and even trying out things that I think it should be capable of. As such, I often find little things that most don’t notice that I feel would be easy to implement and would enhance the experience tremendously.
With the Internet Tablets, there’s no exception. With OS2008, I’ve been using my N800 so much more, and for more things. Thus, I have compiled a short list of apps/features that I’d LOVE to see implemented. I don’t think they’d be too difficult, but I’m also *not* a programmer, and thus have zero knowledge of whether or not these are even possible, much less doable.
Anyways, click through to find out my top three app requests, and see if you have any of your own to add to the list….
The first and foremost is that search box on the home screen. Yeah, the one that only has Google and Wikipedia. Why are those the only 2 engines in there? Why doesn’t this work like the similar box on my Firefox browser, where I have added Flickr, IMDB, Mininova.org, eBay, Amazon.com, the list goes on. How difficult is this to implement? Does anyone want to take on? I’d like to see a bigger selection of search plugins for the home screen.
Second is an automatic background changing feature. I’ve got all these stinkin awesome backgrounds that I want to use, but I don’t want to have to be bothered to change it every now and again. I’m a forgetful guy. How cool would it be if I could put certain backgrounds in a folder, and have my Tablet automatically cycle through them, changing the background every hour, or 2 hours, or some other user-specified time period? Kinda like Webshots for your Tablet? What do you think?
Third is something that I would *really* like to see implemented in Mirage, as that’s my preferred image editor for blogging. I’d like to have a ‘Send to Flickr’ option like I have in Windows. I’d like to be able to select a group of images, send them to Flickr, and be able to add them to a set, add tags, etc. without having to open up a web browser to Flickr. This would also be really convenient if you’re at a convention or something with a digital camera or camera phone. Pop your memory card into your Tablet and upload all your pics on the go, no laptop needed. Greatness.
That’s it for now. If I could get those three things implemented, I think I’d be a happy camper, and I think they’re all three things that plenty of other Tablet users would be able to use, as well. What about you? Would you like to see any of these for the Tablet? What are your most desired apps/features?
